15/06/2023

Council congratulates local businesses that have already joined the Zero Barriers community and encourages other local businesses to join this growing directory.

Zero Barriers is a support project for businesses and services that work to help eliminate barriers for people with disability when shopping, using services or participating in activities within their local community.

Georges River Council is a proud member of Zero Barriers. The program works to educate businesses and services about accessibility and inclusion barriers through a wide range of methods such as face-to-face conversations, accessibility guides and training opportunities.

Zero Barriers has engaged with over 230 businesses across the suburbs of Allawah, Kingsgrove, Kogarah, Hurstville, Mortdale, and Penshurst. It supports businesses and services to become more disability-friendly, making it a crucial and important project within our community.

Mayor Nick Katris said, “It is very pleasing to see the growing numbers of businesses in Georges River working with Zero Barriers to adapt to being inclusive for all in the community.

“Accessibility and inclusion are important for all our residents and this project will assist businesses to realise opportunities to become more accessible for people with a disability.”
