Get your green thumbs out! Council’s Verge Garden Competition deadline extended

20/12/2023

Georges River Council is thrilled to announce that the Verge Garden Competition deadline has been extended to 15 January 2024, providing local gardeners with more time to bring their imaginative verge gardens to life.

Open to those who have registered to Council’s Verge Garden Program, the competition encourages passionate gardeners to add greenery to our community, making it more interesting and lively.

Georges River Council Mayor, Sam Elmir, said that he was pleased the deadline had been extended to give more people the chance to participate in the initiative.

“This initiative is a great way to make our community more vibrant while also recognising the hard work our local gardeners have put into their very own verge gardens,” said Mayor Elmir.

“I can’t wait to see what our creative gardeners come up with and I extend my thanks and congratulations to all participants.”

The winning entry with the highest number of votes will be awarded a $250 voucher to use at Altra Nursery, a local gardening retailer in Mortdale.

Altra Nursery Hand James Douglas, said verge gardens are great for an urban environment.

“Verge gardens add shelter for native animals such as lizards to live in and add much needed plants for pollinators to thrive off.

“We are super excited to see everyone out in the street planting out their verge and creating a beautiful gardening community,” added James Douglas.
