Celebrating a successful Clean Up Australia Day 2024

Clean Up Australia Day has proven to be a success for 2024, with numerous groups and individuals participating in clean ups at 32 sites across the Georges River Area.
 
Held on Sunday 3 March, Georges River Council supported local volunteers and helped with removing over a tonne of litter. Community, business and school clean ups were held by multiple groups within the local government area, with more clean ups occurring over the next few weeks. Sites and groups include:

  • Advance Diversity Services at Hogben Park, Kogarah
  • Blossom Preschool, Penshurst
  • Bridge St Kids Early Learning Centre, Hurstville
  • BLIA Kogarah Cub Pack
  • Claydon Reserve, Kogarah Bay
  • Club Rivers
  • Georges River College Oatley Senior Campus
  • Hurstville Community Garden
  • IAAL Charitable Association at Oatley Pleasure Grounds, Oatley
  • Jenny’s Kindergarten and Early Learning Hurstville at Woodville Park, Hurstville
  • Lugarno Progress Association at Murdock Crescent Reserve and H.V. Evatt Memorial Park, Lugarno
  • Mortdale Public School
  • Nan Tien Buddhist Temple, Kogarah
  • Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society at Kyle Williams Reserve, Blakehurst, Lime Kiln Bay Wetlands and Jinna Reserve, Peakhurst Heights
  • Southside Montessori Pre and Primary School, Riverwood
  • St George Hospital, Kogarah
  • Sydney HKG Community Group at Taunton Street Reserve, Blakehurst
  • Tian Kuan Maitreya Incorporated at Oatley Castle, Oatley Park
  • Woniora Road School, Hurstville

Items collected across the clean up sites included soft plastics, takeaway food cartons, tyres, water bottles, polystyrene, cigarette butts, vapes, fire extinguishers, gas bottles, and even a broken bird box among many other things!
 
Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir also joined the clean up effort and said he was proud to be part of such an important community event.
 
“I’d like to congratulate everyone who participated in this year’s Clean Up Australia Day. It’s always wonderful to see our community come together to positively contribute to our local environment.
 
“Being a part of this year’s clean up and seeing local volunteers embrace community spirit was a truly wonderful experience,” added the Mayor.
