Council has completed significant work in Mortdale as part of the Mortdale Town Centre Streetscape Upgrade Project. Works were expected to be completed by December 2022, however the cancellation of electrical outages by the State Authority Ausgrid have delayed the completion of this project.

Electrical outages are required to complete electrical service connections underground as part of the streetscape improvement works. Until these necessary outages are completed, Council cannot remove above ground electrical infrastructure and subsequently complete paving and landscaping work.

Areas of Mortdale Town Centre therefore remain active work zones, which has resulted in the temporary patching of sections of the main shopping precinct to ensure community safety. Council understands delays to the completion of the Mortdale Streetscape Upgrade project have impacted the local community, however continues to ensure community safety and mitigation of impact to the use of Mortdale Town Centre.

Council continues to work with Ausgrid to expedite this work where possible. The final stage of Ausgrid electrical work is expected to commence in September 2023, weather and permitting and pending Ausgrid approval.

The remaining streetscape upgrade works will be expedited following the completion of electrical work.
