Embark on a scenic cruise along the Georges River and discover its unique history.

Sailing onboard the Bass and Flinders, you will enjoy a 3-hour cruise along the Georges River, from Sans Souci to Salt Pan Creek and back again, with a delicious buffet lunch. 

While taking in the beautiful scenery along our route, you will learn more about the people and environment of the Georges River, as Professor Heather Goodall shares insights into the history of the river, from Aboriginal communities to environmental activism. 

Parking is available on-site at Sans Souci Park. 

About Professor Heather Goodall

Heather Goodall is an award-winning author, publishing on Indigenous histories and environmental history and on decolonisation. She has co-authored with Aboriginal activists Isabel Flick and Kevin Cook. Growing up on Sydney’s Georges River, Heather has analysed river environmental history and politics in rural areas and in cities.

Her co-authored books on Georges River people and environment include Rivers and Resilience (Aboriginal communities); Waters of Belonging (Arabic-speaking communities) and Waterborne (Vietnamese communities). As Professor Emerita of History, University of Technology Sydney, Heather continues her work as an activist researcher.

Accessibility Information

Accessibility on the vessel: On boarding there is a 10-15cm step at the door. The main dining area and amenities are located on the lower level. Table service is available.

Terms and conditions

  • For participants under the age of 16, parents and/or guardians of children must remain in the library for the duration of the program.     
  • If you arrive after the cruise has left the dock, you will not be able to board. 
  • If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces and repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations, bookings may be refused in the future.
