Discover the hidden history of your home with free resources available at your local library.

Have you ever wondered about the history of your home? Who lived in it before you, what events occurred within its walls, or what secrets it may hold?

Join us for a workshop that will teach you how to research your house's history using free resources available at your local library. Register now to reserve your spot and unlock the secrets of your home!

Led by the Local Studies Librarians, you will learn:

  • How to use free library resources such as Ancestry.com and guidance on how to access and use SIX Maps, NSW Land Registry Services records and NSW Historical Imagery Viewer to assist in the research of your house history.
  • How to use the Georges River Libraries catalogue to locate photographs of your neighborhood.
  • How to use Georges River Libraries Local Studies property records to discover information about previous property owners.

This event is suitable for ages 16 years and over.

Terms and conditions
  • For participants under the age of 16, parents and/or guardians of children must remain in the library for the duration of the program.   
  • If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the advertised start time and there are people in the standby queue, your ticket may be allocated to the standby queue.
  • If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces and repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations, bookings may be refused in the future.

About Local Studies
Our Local Studies Team support the preservation and promotion of the Georges River Council through the research and collection of local historical materials such as maps, photographs and newspapers to gain a deeper understanding of our history, culture, and community.
