Port Botany

The Georges River LGA is located just 12km by road from Port Botany - Australia’s premium port. Port Botany is a massive contributor to the economic well-being of Sydney and New South Wales. The port is home to the state’s largest container facility and is also New South Wales primary bulk liquid and gas port, servicing the largest population centre in Australia.
 

Sydney Airport

The Georges River LGA is located 7.5km by road from Sydney Airport - the primary airport serving Sydney and Australia. Sydney Airport is the main hub for Qantas and is a secondary hub for Virgin Australia and Jetstar Airways.

Situated next to Botany Bay, the airport has three runways, known as the east–west, north–south and third runways.

Sydney Airport is one of the world's longest continuously operated commercial airports and the busiest airport in Australia, handling more than 44 million passengers in 2018.
 

Bankstown Airport

Located 16km from the Hurstville City Centre, Bankstown Airport accommodates an average of 700 aircraft movements per day. Bankstown Airport also serves as a flying base for the majority of the Sydney Air Emergency Services. It is home to NSW Police Air Wing, the NSW Parks and Wildlife Service, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Forestry Corporation of NSW, NETS (Newborn Emergency Transport Service), Careflight, Toll/NSW Ambulance Service and the Aviation Studies program of the University of NSW and TAFE NSW.

From an economic perspective, the airport is home to 160 businesses, employs over 4,500 people with a contribution of nearly $1 billion to the region.
 

The M5 South-West Motorway

Opened in August 1992, the M5 South-West Motorway is a free flowing transit corridor spanning 22km of Sydney's south west from Prestons to Beverly Hills which situated in the northern part of the Georges River LGA.

In June 2012 a project which was initiated to widen the M5 to provide an additional lane in each direction has delivered better and more reliable travel times, and an even safer trip. This project was completed in 2014.

The M5 South-West Motorway is operated by Interlink Roads under a lease that expires in December 2026.

Several major roads including the F5 Freeway, the M5 East Freeway and the Westlink M7, connect to the M5 which are all run by Roads and Maritime Services.
 

The M5 East Motorway

The M5 East Motorway is a public motorway owned by Roads and Maritime Services and is not tolled. It is a major connection between the CBD, Sydney Airport, Port Botany  and the M5 South West Motorway. The M5 East is 10 kms in length and runs in both directions between General Holmes Drive and the M5 South West Motorway and is accessible via Kingsgrove Road.
 

Rail Services

The Georges River LGA is serviced by two Sydney Trains rail lines: the T4 Illawarra Line that connects to the Sydney CBD Bondi Junction, Sutherland Shire, Wollongong, the Illawarra, and  the T8 Airport and South Line that links all the above locations with Sydney Airport and Greater Sydney. The two lines include 11 railway stations within the Georges River LGA. These stations are serviced by an extensive and efficient bus network that connects to key centres and transport hubs ensuring that people can move efficiently and quickly.
