Magic of Christmas 2023


Friends and families are invited to gather in Carss Bush Park for an evening of festive fun at our annual Magic of Christmas event.

The event features Christmas-themed stalls, special performances and plenty of food. Spectacular fireworks will light up the bay for all to enjoy at 9.00pm. 
 
Bring your picnic blanket and settle in for an evening of festive entertainment and food, and don't forget to keep an eye out for Santa!

 

Event Details

  • When: Saturday 2 December 2023, 4.30pm - 9.00pm.
  • Where: Carss Bush Park, Carwar Ave, Carss Park.
  • Entry: Free.
  • What to bring: Picnic rug and chairs. Please note this is an alcohol-free event.
  • Further information: Limited parking will be available at Carss Park Flats. We encourage you to walk, cycle or catch public transport where possible.

To invite everyone to sing along during the carols, we have created a songbook with the carol lyrics and some more information about the performers, sponsors and upcoming events.

Entertainment program

MC - Emma Palmer

Our host for the night will be the one and only... Emma Palmer!

You probably recognise Emma from ABC's Play School. As the master of ceremonies, Emma will be introducing our incredible performances and make sure we all have fun.

By the end of the evening, together with Santa and Georges River Council's Mayor, she will lead the countdown to the fireworks, which will culminate the night with a bang. 

4.35pm - Georges River Voices

Georges River Voices is a community choir for adults based in the St George area of Sydney. Their primary objective is to share with others the joy and power of singing together.

Their carols performance will include Christmas-favourites such as Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, Winter Wonderland, Carol of the bells and Santa Claus is coming tonight, amongst others. 

If you would like to join the choir, go along, and support your local choir at Oatley Uniting Church Hall, Tuesday nights at 7:30pm.

5.05pm - The Beanies

Laura, Mim and Michael are best known for their TV Show on ABC Kids which is a top 10 ABC Kids favourite with over 5 million streams (and counting!)

The Beanies make an award-winning podcast series which has eclipsed over 1.5 million downloads and in 2018 won an Australian Podcast Award for Best Kids and Families Podcast.
 

5.40pm - Smurfs Christmas Show

Let's celebrate the festive season with our adorable little blue friends... The Smurfs! 

It’s Christmas and Smurfette is ready to light up the stage with her Rock’n Roll Christmas Party Hop…. But will Papa Smurf be able to get over his stage fright?
 
Get ready to sing along… Get ready to dance along in a Smurfland Christmas kind of way.

At 6.15pm children will have the opportunity to take a photo with Smurfette and Papa Smurf.

6.05pm - SplashDance Christmas Show

SplashDance airs on ABC Kids TV everyday straight after Playschool.

The series has been receiving rave reviews Australia wide for its fresh approach to children’s entertainment.

The Sydney Morning Herald described SplashDance as the ‘new cool for preschool’ and broadcasters have already begun airing the series internationally.

6.35pm - READY SET DANCE Kid Crew

Are you ready to move and groove?

Join the READY SET DANCE Kid Crew for a 30-minute interactive Dance Party that'll have you on your feet!

Feel the excitement as you groove to your favourite Ready Set Dance TV Show tracks, and let the festive spirit take over as we sprinkle in some Christmas magic.
 

7.05pm - Elf Drumming and hula hooping Show

A fun interactive drumming/circus Christmas show taking the audience on a magical drumming adventure across the globe. 

Audience members will be invited to join the elves to play the drums (some drums will be available) and part way through the show Shiho the hula hooping elf from Japan will ask the audience to join in with the hula hooping!

Lots of fun, highly interactive and embracing of cultures around the world!

7.40pm - The Acro Co

The Acro Co. is an Acrobatic Gymnastics and Tumbling School, located in Peakhurst and Caringbah, that offers both recreational and competitive classes.

Their performance combines thrilling tumbling skills, as well as partnered lifts and gravity-defying balance skills that will be sure to leave you inspired.

This sport is only made possible by the friendships that are formed and strong trust in one another, built through commitment and dedication to their training. All athletes in the team must have commitment, perseverance, a strong desire to improve themselves, and consistently challenge themselves for the benefit of a group. Ultimately achieving something quite remarkable together.

7.50pm - Chris Sebastian

As a winner on The Voice Season 9 in 2020, mentored by Kelly Rowland, Chris Sebastian quickly became a household name throughout Australia.

With his exceptional skills as a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter, he has established himself as a complete artist in his own right.

Chris's captivating performances have received an overwhelming response both locally and internationally. He has supported some of the world's best musicians, including his tour with Aussie electronic music duo, Peking Duk, and has sold out his own headline shows.

Chris's upcoming music release delves into the journey of life and love.

9.00pm - Fireworks

The night will conclude with some spectacular fireworks!

Santa, Emma Palmer and our Mayor Sam Elmir will lead the countdown to the start of the fireworks.
The sky will light up to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas festivities and the end to another wonderful evening.

Accessibility support provided at the event: mobility accessibility, accessible parking available and drop-off zone, accessible toilets, service animals are welcome, power point to recharge mobility scooters and a quiet space is available.
