Carss Park Straw Bale Shed

The Straw Bale Shed is a unique venue located in Carss Park Community Garden.

Opened in August 2009, the Straw Bale Shed is available for hire to registered not-for-profit groups only and is suitable for community meetings and workshops.

In keeping with the sustainability ethos of the gardens, the shed walls were built from straw bales, while recycled tyres were were used in the foundation and lime render was used in place of cement. The timber used in the shed was used from plantation-grown Paulownia. The shed also includes rainwater tanks and the building has a 'truth window' to show visitors the straw bale construction of the walls.
