Holding activities in a park or open space

If you would like to hold a commercial fitness training session in a park or open space, you will need to obtain a permit from Council.

How To Apply 

Any organisation or individual providing fitness services, activities and instruction to people on public land and receiving a retaining fee, financial contribution or donation must apply for a permit.

Cost of permits depends upon location. Learn more about Council’s fees and charges.

To apply for a permit, please contact us. Applicants will be notified by phone and mail within 14 days of submitting their application.


Activities Permitted

Prohibited Activities

High Activity:

  • Boot Camp (circuit type only, no shouting)

  • Boxing and pad training after 6.30am

  • Gym activities and circuit training

  • Organised aerobic activity

Low Activity:

  • Pilates, yoga and tai chi

  • Power walking

  • Storage of any equipment within a public park or space

  • Amplified music or voice equipment

  • Any mobile floodlights or spotlights

  • Council’s sport floodlights (unauthorised)

  • Pressurised air-horns, whistles or other similar devices

  • Selling, hiring or promoting goods or services 

  • Signage of any kind including A-frames
