How Development Applications are Assessed

The following steps are carried out to assess a Development Application:

  1. An initial application review

  2. Allocation to an Assessment Officer

  3. Referrals to applicable expert bodies - if required

  4. Advertising or notification to potentially affected properties

  5. Detailed assessment, including consideration of referral comments and public submissions

  6. Approval or refusal of your Development Application.

Our Assessment Officers determine the majority of Development Applications, however, significant developments are determined by the Independent Hearing and Assessment Panel. If the development costs over $20 million, applications will be determined by the Sydney South Planning Panel.

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of an assessment, you can learn more about requesting a review
