Change of rating categories

In 2021, Council is implementing a fairer rating system across the Local Government Area that better reflects access to and demand for services and infrastructure.

Council's new business sub-categories will take effect from 1 July 2021, in accordance with Council’s new rating structure.

All affected business property owners will be notified of the changes by letter. Please contact Council if you have not received your notification as any objections must be submitted within 30 days from the date of notification.

Request review of land rating category

It is the property owner's responsibility to request for Council review of the property category/sub-category in the following situations by submitting an Application to Change Rating Category of Land form:

  • Within 30 days of the date of Council's written letter notifying of the new property category/sub-category (per Section 524 LG Act), if you object to Council's categorisation; or

  • At any time if the usage of your property has changed (LG Act Section 525).

Following Council’s review, if you are dissatisfied with the date on which the declaration will take effect or the outcome of an application to change category, you may appeal to the Land and Environment Court within 30 days from the date of Council’s review.
