Public Notice
12/02/2026
Due to Fusarium wilt and the high risk of tree failure, four Phoenix palms will be removed from the central traffic island of the main shopping area on King Georges Road, Beverly Hills.
Fusarium wilt is a highly contagious and serious disease affecting palms. It is caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum, which restricts the tree’s ability to transport water, leading to rapid decline and irreversible damage. Typical symptoms include one-sided browning of fronds, beginning with the lower leaves and progressing upwards, with affected fronds remaining rigid rather than drooping. There is no known cure for this disease. To prevent its spread to nearby palms, infected trees must be removed promptly and strict hygiene measures must be followed.
These works will take place at night to reduce impacts on traffic, businesses, and pedestrians. Palm removal is currently scheduled for Monday 9 March and Tuesday 10 March 2026. We have worked with Council’s contractors, and everything is in place to start at 11.00pm. The Road Occupancy Licence allows work between 11.00pm and 5.00am. We expect all palms to be removed over the two nights.
The tree plantings to replace the ones being removed will roll out as part of a wider planting program across Georges River. During May and June this year 111 trees will be planted with species selected from Council’s Street Tree Masterplan.
We thank the community for their understanding while these essential works are undertaken to protect surrounding trees and maintain public safety.
