Georges River Council is inviting the Nepalese community to help shape a new exhibition at Hurstville Museum & Gallery. It will open in May 2026.
Titled Nepalese Journeys: Migration and Community of St George. The exhibition will explore the migration stories and lived experiences of the Nepalese community in the St George area. Through personal stories, cultural objects, photographs, art, and historical and contemporary materials, the exhibition will celebrate Nepalese culture and identity in the Georges River region.
Running from 1 May to 30 August 2026. This event will highlight Nepalese history, music, art, religion, and more. Offering a vibrant and inclusive portrait of the community.
Council is inviting members of the Nepalese community, or those with personal or family connections, to get involved by:

Sharing migration stories or ideas.

Offering items for temporary display or donation.

Participating in consultation to help shape the exhibition.
Examples of items that may be suitable for display include:

Travel documents, passports, visas, or certificates (or copies).

Photographs or videos.

Nepalese clothing.
-
Religious or festival-related objects.
-
Cooking utensils, recipes, or food-related items.

Art, dance, or music-related objects.

Personal items with a meaningful story.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “This exhibition is a valuable opportunity to honour the contributions of the Nepalese community to the Georges River area and will celebrate their rich culture and stories.
“We want to ensure the voices and experiences of the community are represented in a way that feels true and meaningful.
“I warmly invite anyone with a connection to Nepalese heritage to get involved and help bring this exhibition to life.”
