Have Your Say on Peakhurst Park Community Centre Naming Proposal

14/01/2026

Georges River Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a proposal to officially name the new community facility in Peakhurst Park as the Peakhurst Park Community Centre.

Construction is underway, and the project is expected to finish by April 2026. The modern multi-purpose facility will provide a shared hub where local groups can meet and hold community events.

While the building has been informally referred to as the Peakhurst Park Community Centre, the name has not been officially approved by Council.

Official naming of the building will improve wayfinding on maps and support emergency and essential services in locating the site. This will ensure consistency across Council documents and mapping systems.

The proposed name also recognises local history, referencing the original “Peakhurst Park Estate” from 1885 and early settler John Robert Peake, after whom Peakhurst was named.

The proposed name is consistent with Georges River Council’s Place Naming Policy. Under this Policy, names are selected for their connection to the area’s unique history and culture.

Georges River Council General Manager David Tuxford said, “The Peakhurst Park Community Centre is designed to bring our community together.

“Giving the facility an official name is an important step in making it a recognised and accessible place for everyone to enjoy.

“Council encourages the community to share their thoughts during the consultation period.”

The public consultation period is open until Saturday 7 February 2026.
