Grant will help micro-businesses roll out NDIS services

Georges River Council has awarded Verge Collaborative a grant of $31,625 through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund Program.
The funds will go towards implementing a Verge Collaborative’s Ignition & Beyond project, which is aimed at assisting micro-business owners to understand the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and their local market.
Nat Ellis, Project Manager at Verge Collaborative, said that the project will allow participants to design and test a sustainable business model specific to the NDIS.
“We were very excited to be financially supported to bring the program to new and existing micro-business owners in the Georges River area, without any cost to the local program participants,” said Ms Ellis.
“The program will allow participants to explore potential opportunities to provide supports and services under the NDIS,” she added.
“When the NDIS rolls out in the Georges River area (July 2017), local NDIS participants will be looking for personalised, local supports and services that best meet their needs.”
Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner stressed how important it was to maximise choice, control and benefits for local NDIS participants.
“Council is committed to providing services that meet the needs of all members of the community,” he said.
“In order to achieve this we need to offer a vibrant and competitive supply of supports which are readily available, and close to home.”
“Increasing the number of small, personalised and local NDIS service providers will increase choice for participants, and help to build a more supportive and inclusive Georges River community.”
The program will commence in August 2017 with an initial one-day introductory workshop.
Attendees who believe they will benefit from additional business development seminars will be encouraged to apply to attend the eight-seminar program starting September 2017, and again in January 2018.
Both programs will wrap up in April 2018.
More than 60 applications were received by Council requesting funding through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund Program.
Of these applicants, 27 were awarded funding ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. A total of $1 million in funding was granted to local community groups.
