Olympic champions Jessica Fox OAM and Noemie Fox OAM are encouraging Georges River residents to try paddling when they visit Carss Bush Park Baths on 21–22 March for a free community paddling activation.
The two sisters made history at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, winning all the women’s canoe slalom gold medals, with Jess now a three-time Olympic champion and Noemie claiming her first Olympic gold medal in kayak cross.
Now they’re sharing their passion for paddling by promoting paddling to the Georges River community.
The free sessions – delivered through a partnership between Georges River Council and Paddle Australia – will introduce local families and residents to kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding in a safe and supportive environment.
There will be eight 45-minute sessions across the weekend. Each session will host up to 20 participants, with all equipment provided and qualified instructors guiding participants through a fun introduction to paddling.
After checking in and receiving a safety briefing, participants will get on the water to enjoy paddle play, craft swapping and a fun obstacle course within the activation zone.
Three-time Olympic champion Jess Fox said paddling is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to connect with nature and stay active.
“Paddling is for everyone. Whether it’s your first time on the water or something you’ve always wanted to try, these sessions are all about having fun and enjoying the beautiful waterways we have right here in our communities.”
Paris 2024 Olympic champion Noemie Fox said events like this are a great way for families and young people to discover a new activity together.
“We both started paddling because we loved being on the water. It’s exciting to see new people give it a go, have a laugh and discover how much fun paddling can be.”
Father of the Fox sisters, Richard Fox, a world champion and Olympian, will help lead the community sessions with Naazmi Johnston, Executive General Manager for Lifestyle, Clubs and Community at Paddle Australia.
Johnston said the activation is part of Paddle Australia’s national participation strategy to help more Australians experience paddling.
“We’re excited to introduce the Georges River community to paddling in a fun and welcoming way. Whether it’s someone’s first time on the water or the start of a lifelong passion, these sessions celebrate the incredible waterways we have right on our doorstep.”
Georges River Mayor Elise Borg said Council was delighted to host Paddle Australia for the community event.
“We’re excited to introduce paddling to Carss Bush Park Baths for this special community event,” Mayor Borg said.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to get active, learn new skills and experience paddling on the Georges River in a safe and supportive setting.”
“Council is committed to creating programs that connect our community with the outdoors, and this partnership with Paddle Australia is a wonderful example of that.”
The Georges River activation follows a similar community paddling event delivered at the successful Sydney 2025 ICF Slalom World Championships last year in Penrith, forming part of Paddle Australia’s broader program to introduce paddling to new audiences across Sydney and nationally.
