Georges River Council is continuing to strengthen its support for grassroots sport, partnering with Connells Point Netball Club to promote community pride and celebrate local participation in women’s sport.
Established in 1966, Connells Point Netball Club has grown to nearly 300 members across 36 teams, making it an active community club in the Georges River area.
The partnership developed following Council’s recent upgrades to the Poulton Park Netball Courts, which have significantly improved facilities for the club and local community. As part of the collaboration, Connells Point Netball Club has added the Discover Georges River logo to its uniforms, a first-of-its-kind initiative that celebrates the connection between sport, place, and community.
President of Connells Point Netball Club, Julian Finch said “The logo on our uniform is a way to acknowledge Council’s contribution to our success and to celebrate our shared commitment to the local community.”
“Looking ahead to the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, it’s a great opportunity for clubs like ours to build on that support, promote women’s sport and inspire the next generation of athletes.”
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said the partnership is part of Council’s wider commitment to supporting active lifestyles and strengthening local identity.
“Sport is more than just games on a weekend, it brings people together, builds confidence, and helps young people feel connected.”
“We’re proud to support clubs like Connells Point Netball, who do so much to champion inclusion and create opportunities for women and girls to thrive in sport.”
