Connells Point Rovers kick a goal with community grant

Georges River Council has awarded $18,151 to Connells Point Rovers Football Club as part of the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund Program.
The funding will make it possible for the club to purchase new portable goal posts for both their full size fields and will also enable them to replace their junior goals.
Former Assistant Secretary of the club, John Colonnelli, said the club was “absolutely delighted and very grateful for the Council’s support”.
“As the new posts are fully portable, they will be packed away after each game. This will reduce the wear and tear on the field that would normally occur outside game day,” he said.
“The goal posts have been purchased and we are awaiting delivery.  They will be ready for the start of the 2017 St George Association competition on 31 March.”
Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner said that having portable goal posts will help ensure that they are long-lasting.
“This type of equipment will offer the club added flexibility regarding the use of the field,” he said.
“I would like to congratulate the Connells Point Rovers Football Club on its successful application through the Stronger Communities Fund Program and I look forward to hearing of the club’s success throughout the season.”
More than 60 applications were received by Council requesting funding through the NSW Government’s Stronger Communities Fund Program.
Of these applicants, 27 were awarded funding ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. A total of $1 million in funding was granted to local community groups.
