Celebrate the Reopening of Hurstville Library with Library Lovers Day

29/01/2026

Georges River Council is excited to welcome the community back to Hurstville Library for Library Lovers Day on Saturday 14 February 2026.

The reopening follows the temporary closure which happened in December 2025 to allow for essential fire system upgrades.

Library Lovers Day is a chance to rediscover everything Hurstville Library has to offer, with every space open to explore and enjoy! There’s fun for all ages, including:

  • Interactive experiences including virtual reality sessions, green screen activities, sound recording and a learn-to-DJ workshop.

  • Family fun with Storytimes, a scavenger hunt, an escape room challenge, bookmark and badge making, and Lego play.

  • Demonstrations of the new Digitisation Station, showing how to preserve and share treasured memories from VHS tapes, cassette recordings and film photographs.

  • The unveiling of a new public artwork, along with the chance to vote in the People’s Choice award for the Summer Photo Bingo exhibition.

  • The chance to win exciting prizes and giveaways throughout the day!

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg, “Hurstville Library is a place for learning, creativity and connection.

“Library Lovers Day is a wonderful chance to celebrate the reopening and the many ways libraries bring people together.

“We’re excited to offer a program with activities for all ages. I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy this special day.”
