Celebrate the Nepalese Community with New Exhibition Woven from a hundred flowers

21/04/2026

Georges River Council is proud to present Woven from a hundred flowers, a new exhibition that celebrates the rich culture and stories of the Nepalese community.

The Nepalese community has emerged as one of the fastest growing population groups in the Georges River Council area.

Created in collaboration with local community members, the exhibition has been shaped by their enthusiasm, generosity and lived experiences.

Woven from a hundred flowers explores themes such as music, dance, spirituality, fashion, textiles and food. It features objects on loan from the Powerhouse Museum, along with personal items shared by community members. Visitors can also enjoy a playful interactive activity for children and a community wall that highlights local Nepalese people and businesses.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said the exhibition is an opportunity to recognise the important role the Nepalese community plays in Georges River.

“This exhibition celebrates the creativity, culture and contribution of our Nepalese community. We are proud to share their stories with the wider public.”

Join us at Hurstville Museum & Gallery for the official opening of Woven from a hundred flowers on Friday 1 May from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. The evening will feature a cultural dance performance and the chance to sample delicious Nepalese food. The event will also include a special speech from Mr Sanjeev Sharma, Honorary Consul of Nepal to NSW.

Bookings are encouraged via Council’s What’s On Page.
