Your guide to celebrating Christmas in and around the Georges River

The Georges River community will be hosting a range of events this Christmas season to get everyone in a festive mood.

Council has busily been decorating the Georges River area, with approximately 200 wreaths to be displayed in the coming weeks in town centres and on Council buildings. From Riverwood to Sans Souci, Lugarno to Kingsgrove, Council is adding to the community’s Christmas cheer.

A large Christmas tree has been erected in Hurstville Plaza, and a festive-themed public art installation will be installed in late November. These decorations will enhance the Christmas markets, to be held over two weekends in December, making Hurstville Plaza come alive with Christmas spirit and celebration.

Kogarah Town Square is also festively decorated, with a large Christmas tree installed outside Kogarah Library.
A colourful, oversized Christmas gift box will be installed outside Hurstville Central near Hurstville train station, along with a Christmas mural and several Christmas themed photo scenes, all of which will make wonderful photo opportunities for commuters and shoppers.

You can catch the glorious sound of Council Carollers over two weekends in December, as they rove town centres in Kingsgrove, Mortdale, Oatley, Lugarno, Kogarah, Sans Souci and Hurstville.

Council is also supporting local Christmas Carol events being held in Hurstville, Penshurst, Kogarah and Oatley throughout December.

The most anticipated event in the lead-up to Christmas is of course Magic of Christmas at Carss Bush Park on Sunday 1 December. This magical event attracts thousands, and promises a wonderful line-up of entertainers and performances including headline act Colin Buchanan, and a dazzling fireworks finale.

Santa is planning on visiting the Georges River community with a special guest appearance at Magic of Christmas, as well as several free photo opportunities for the community at Penshurst, Riverwood, Kogarah and Hurstville.
