Vale: Former Hurstville City Council Mayor Mervyn Vincent Lynch OAM

Georges River Council pays tribute to former Hurstville City Council Councillor and Mayor, Mervyn (Merv) Vincent Lynch OAM, who has passed away.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Kevin Greene, said he was saddened to hear of Mr Lynch’s passing.

“Merv served on the former Hurstville City Council for over 20 years as a Councillor from 1980 until 2004,” Mayor Greene said.

“During his time with Council, he also served as Mayor from 1991 to 1992.”

“Outside of Council, Merv was a very active member of the local community having been involved with the Illawarra Catholic Club, and even as a President and life member of the St George District Junior Rugby League Club.”

“His service to the community saw him recognised in the 2007 Australia Day Honours List where he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to local government, and to the local community through aged care, sporting and church groups,” Mayor Greene added.

“Merv’s presence in the local community and especially the suburb of Penshurst will be truly missed.”

“I wish to express my condolences to Merv’s family during this difficult time,” he said.
