Update on condition of turf at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium

Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer, Danny Townsend and Adam Santo, Sydney FC Chief Operating Officer, along with their turf consultant inspected the pitch at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium earlier today (25 February 2019).

The result was positive with Sydney FC stating they have no concerns as to the quality of the pitch surface for the upcoming Sydney FC Asian Champions League game to be played on Wednesday 6 March 2019.

St George Illawarra Dragon’s Chief Executive Officer, Brian Johnston agreed that the situation with the ground was due to the exceptional weather conditions throughout January.

Council acknowledges that the turf on the pitch has suffered significantly from the recent heat wave in January, with consecutive days of 35 – 40 degrees that scorched the turf surface and created issues with turf coverage.

In managing the stadium, both the grounds and operations teams work closely to protect the main asset, which is the turf surface.

The balance between delivering a high standard surface and providing for events at the venue is a constant focus for Council staff, and the recent weather events have undoubtedly impacted this balance.

Council’s grounds staff are dedicated and committed to delivering the best playing surface possible and are taking every appropriate measure to remediate the pitch following the heat wave event, including initial top dressing, fertilizing, over-sowing and aeration of the turf.
