Sydney South Planning Panel approves Stages 2 and 3 of Penshurst Park Sporting Hub

29/03/2018

The Sydney South Planning Panel has unanimously approved Georges River Council’s Development Application for Stages 2 and 3 of the Penshurst Park Sporting Masterplan.

This exciting new development will provide Council with the opportunity to complement the creation of the new Indoor Cricket Centre in the Park and ultimately deliver a first class sporting hub in the local government area.

Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said he was extremely pleased with the result.

“This is a great outcome as it will allow Council to meet the need for additional first class sporting facilities within the local government area, and the Southern region of Sydney,” Councillor Greene said.

“Stage 2 of the Masterplan will focus on a series of new and exciting upgrades to Penshurst Park, such as a new synthetic cricket pitch and soccer fields, a running track and a 275-seat grandstand.”

“It will also include new and accessible amenities for everyone along with sports medical rooms and a youth centre,” he added.

“Stage 3 of the Masterplan focuses on improving and extending the existing Hurstville Leisure Centre.”

“These works will include creating a new internal grandstand, adding two multi-purpose sports courts, adding a gymnastics space, a new café area and providing additional parking at the centre.”

Councillor Greene highlighted that, through Stages 2 and 3 of the Penshurst Park Master Plan, Council will be able to cater for higher level sporting events.

“The Georges River Council prides itself on the availability of first class sporting and recreational facilities in the local area,” he said.

“This multi-million dollar project will result in numerous benefits not just for our local sporting groups, but all members of the local community.”

Stages 2 and 3 of the Penshurst Park Sporting Hub will cost approximately $17 million and will be partially funded by a grant provided by the Federal Government and Section 94 developer contribution funds.
