Sydney’s biggest free youth festival is happening in Georges River

01/04/2021

In celebration of National Youth Week (16-24 April), Georges River Council are launching 2021 It's a Mood - a series of exciting events across the month of April for young people aged 12-24.

From esports and a pop-up skatepark, to roller disco and a chess tournament, we have a huge variety of free activities and experiences for young people.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Mr Kevin Greene welcomed the launch of these exciting events across the Georges River area and the opportunities it will provide our youth.

“Our 2021 It’s a Mood youth festival is not only a fun and free event for young people but also an opportunity to empower and encourage our youth to step outside their comfort zones and develop leadership skills,” Mr Greene said.

“We have an Interview Project Workshop for aspiring journalists and content creators as well ‘How to Adult’ courses run by Headspace Hurstville to teach youth about everything from taxes to healthcare, owning a car and living out of home.

“We also have an array of fun activities including an esports tournament, a pop-up skatepark at Olds Park, basketball on the rooftop of Hurstville Westfield and a whole lot more,” Mr Greene said.

Our 2021 It’s a Mood line-up also includes events that encourage family and intergenerational connections such as our Chess Tournament at Kogarah Town Square. A Swiss-style seniors vs youth tournament proudly sponsored by Home Instead Inner South West.

Director of Home Instead Inner South West, Bjorn Jonsson, said this competition will be of great value to the community.

“The 2021 It’s a Mood event is a fun and exciting new concept for our community and it will be great to see the intergenerational Chess Competition come to life”, said Mr Jonsson.

All 2021 It’s a Mood events are completely free, but bookings are essential.
