Swimming Pool Compliance in the Georges River Local Government Area

There are 6,103 registered swimming pools in the Georges River local government area. Of these pools 288 were inspected during the 2016/17 financial year.

Over half of these pools were found to be non-compliant at the first inspection and Council actively pursued these pool owners to ensure these issues were rectified.

The areas of non-compliance found included footholds placed too close to the pool fence, pool gates that did not self-close or self-latch, gaps under or to the sides of pool fencing and resuscitation signs that were missing.

Pool owners are encouraged to apply for a Swimming Pool Compliance Certificate to ensure their pool complies with the NSW Swimming Pool Regulations. Compliance Certificates can be applied for through Georges River Council or through an accredited private pool certifier.

In the 2016/17 financial year, Council issued only one Pool Compliance Order and the matter was considered by the Land & Environment Court.
