Securing high standard of services for growing community

Georges River Council is proposing to implement a new rates system from 1 July 2021 that secures its financial stability to ensure it can continue to provide services and facilities to the community as Georges River grows.

Council seeks to meet the needs of the community now and into the future. The population of Georges River will increase by around 25,000 in the next 15 years. We need to prepare for this growth in population, its required infrastructure and the needs of our community.

Given that the amount of rates collected by the Council is capped, and that regardless of the increases in population growth and new development, a special rate variation is required to meet the needs of the local government area.

The new rates system will ensure the continuity and standard of the services, programs and events that the community values most, and which will support a growing community.

Previous consultations have told us that the majority of our community support maintaining current service standards but if you think there should be service reductions, we want you to have your say at

Webinars explaining the proposed changes and how rates work, and providing opportunity to ask questions about how the changes will effect you are being held on Thursday 12 November at 6.00pm and Saturday 21 November at 10.00am. Register via
