Sans Souci Pool to receive $1 million upgrade

Georges River Council is set to undertake an extensive refurbishment of the pools
at Sans Souci Leisure Centre thanks to the NSW Government’s Stronger
Communities Fund Program.

The refurbishments, which form part of Council’s Georges River Aquatic Facilities
Refurbishment Program, will look to improve both the 50-metre outdoor swimming
pool and the toddler pool.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Councillor Kevin Greene, said the works would
significantly improve the pools and would bring the 50-metre pool back to FINA
standards.

“Through the State Government’s Stronger Communities Fund, $1 million was
allocated to Council’s Aquatic Facilities Refurbishment Program, which will be used
to undertake the works to revamp both pools,” Councillor Greene said.

Each of the Kogarah Bay Ward Councillors said they were very excited about the
upgrade to the pool.

Councillor Stephen Agius said the works, which are scheduled to commence in
early April, will involve structural concrete repair, joint repair to existing concrete
slabs, re-waterproofing and new tiling.

“On completion, members of the community will have two reinvigorated pools to
use,” he added.

Councillor Nick Katris highlighted that, thanks to the Stronger Communities Fund,
Council was able to deliver significant upgrades to local assets and facilities such as
the pools at Sans Souci Leisure Centre.

“The funding provided through this program has allowed Council to undertake a
series of new major capital works projects and even improve and maintain existing
facilities,” he said.

Councillor Leesha Payor added that Council wants to ensure that members of the
community have first class facilities to enjoy in our local area.

“I look forward to seeing the newly refurbished pools when the works are completed
later this year,” she said.

At the Council meeting on 26 March 2018, Dapcor Building Services was appointed
to undertake the refurbishment of the pools.

Council will provide regular updates to members of the community on the progress
of the works and when the 50-metre outdoor swimming pool and toddler pool are
expected to reopen in September 2018.

The indoor 25-metre pool and gym will remain open while the works take place.
