Recycled fragments to highlight sustainable art

Hurstville Museum & Gallery will soon welcome the Recycled fragments exhibition, which will feature original pieces of art using preloved and found objects created by Mia Mosaic artists from St George Creative Art & Craft Centre.

Motivated by the desire to recycle, reuse, reduce and redesign to make art and make a positive impact on the planet, the mosaic challenge centred upon the artists using 60% recycled materials. As part of the show, there will be an art prize sponsored by Crafty Kabinets. Visitors are also invited to participate by voting for People’s Choice, with the winning artist receiving a free term of classes from Mia Mosaics. Mia discovered the joy of producing mosaics approximately 17 years ago when she was unsure what to do with the left over materials from working with stained glass.

She has since become addicted to the wonderful opportunities to work with texture, light and colour that the mosaic medium offers and enjoys using a combination of media including ceramic, glass tiles, mirror, beads, pebbles, crockery and stained glass.
