Planning proposal for LEP 2021 endorsed

Georges River Council endorsed the Planning Proposal for the Local Environmental Plan 2021 (LEP 2021) at its meeting on Monday night.

Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene explained that the Planning Proposal amends the proposed Georges River LEP.

“The Planning Proposal corrects a number of mapping anomalies. Additionally, it introduces the ‘manor houses’ and ‘terraces’ land uses and their associated development controls,” said Mayor Greene.

The LEP 2021 has been an expedited request from the State Government to create capacity for an additional 310 dwellings to meet housing targets for the 6-10 year period (2021 to 2026).

“This will be achieved through the rezoning of one of the future housing areas identified by the Local Strategic Planning Statement 2040,” added Mayor Greene.

Funding from the State Government under the LEP Program will enable a number of studies to be carried out including the LGA-wide Biodiversity Study, Foreshore Scenic Character Review, Mortdale Local Centre Masterplan and development of an Affordable Housing Policy.

The LEP 2021 is an amendment to Council’s Staged Program and the State Government requires the LEP 2021 to be finalised by 31 March 2021.
