Planner of the Year commendation for Council Director

Georges River Council is pleased to announce that at last night’s 2020 Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) NSW Awards for Planning Excellence, Director Environment and Planning Meryl Bishop was awarded a commendation in the Planner of the Year category.

The NSW Awards for Planning Excellence recognise and acknowledge quality, innovation and excellence in Planning. The Awards promote the important role of the Planning profession in the creation of New South Wales build environment.

In accepting her award, Ms Bishop said that she was honoured to be nominated for the award.

“It’s not only an acknowledgement of me, but also of local government,” said Ms Bishop.

“I have always worked in local government as it’s the level of government where you work with the community, and the Councillors and you make a difference, whether that’s in the delivery of affordable housing, revitalising centres, or shaping public places,” she added.

Ms Bishop has over 25 years’ experience working in local government, with extensive experience in statutory and land use planning, policy and program development covering economic planning, place management, affordable housing and social and recreation/open-space planning.
