Penshurst Park Sporting Hub - Stage 2 underway

Georges River Council today celebrated the commencement of Stage 2 of the Penshurst Park Sporting Hub.

Mayor Kevin Greene said that, once completed, the sporting hub will deliver key new infrastructure to the local community with provision of accessible, modern facilities that encourage active lifestyles.

“The new facility will help build a healthier and happier community with more opportunities to participate in sport and recreation,” said Mayor Greene.

“We understand there are different groups of people within the sport and recreation community, and some have different requirements.
“This is why the design includes a youth centre, outdoor gym equipment, and accessible amenities and change rooms.

“There will be a grandstand so people can enjoy watching sport all year round on the new synthetic sports field, which includes an hydraulic cricket wicket.

“The car park will be upgraded, and there will also be an all abilities playground, which, as we have witnessed in other areas of the Georges River, are proving incredibly popular,” added Mayor Greene.

Stage 2 of the project follows the delivery in 2019 of the Norm O’Neill Cricket Centre which represented Stage 1 of the project, as identified in the Penshurst Park Plan of Management and detailed Master Plan for the site.

The Commonwealth Government provided a $1,000,000 Community Development Grant to support and assist Council in the construction and delivery of the synthetic football field. The remaining funds were allocated from developer contributions and Council funds.
