Oatley Park and Olds Park playing fields set to be resurfaced

24/08/2017

As part of Georges River Council’s Parks Infrastructure Program 2017-2018, Oatley Park Oval and Olds Park Soccer Field are set to be resurfaced, increasing the playability of the sports fields throughout the year.

The program will also see the installation of irrigation at Olds Park Soccer Field, after an assessment revealed the specifications required to achieve better year-round pitch quality.

“Council wanted to find a way to increase the useability of the fields and improve the playing quality for user groups throughout the year,” said Council’s Administrator, Mr John Rayner.

“We also wanted to reduce the likelihood of fields being unavailable for use due to ground conditions, which is an ongoing issue throughout the sporting seasons.

Mr Rayner added, “If fields are heavily worn during the winter playing season they can take a long time to respond fully to repair and recovery processes. It’s hoped that these improvements will make the natural playing surfaces more resilient.”

“The irrigation to be installed at Olds Park Soccer Field will make it possible for the turf to recover more quickly after heavy rainfall, which I’m sure many clubs will be pleased to learn.”

“We understand the importance of sport and recreation and the positive impacts for people of all ages, so we will continue to provide upgrades and improvements every year,” he said.

Funding for the projects has been allocated from the 2017-2018 Parks Infrastructure Plus program, with $131,145 going towards the works at Olds Park Soccer Field and $102,400 for works at Oatley Park.
