Georges River Council is inviting local not-for-profit community groups to apply for grant funding through the 2017 Georges River Community Grants Program which opens on Monday 15 May 2017.

Council’s Administrator, John Rayner, said a total of $200,000 is available to local community groups to apply for grants of up to $10,000 each.

“This program is designed to help fund projects that benefit members of the local community,” he said.

“These projects can cover areas such as community development, culture and arts development, environment and conservation, and sports and recreation.”

“I strongly encourage all not-for-profit community groups to apply for grant funding during the 2017 program.”

Mr Rayner explained the 2017 program follows the very successful 2016 Community Grants Program, which saw a total of 37 groups receive funding ranging from $500 up to $10,000.

“The funding, which varied depending on the project, went towards upgrading sporting facilities, improving the local environment, hosting events and the running of community activities and support programs,” he said.

“All funding was awarded according to a merit-based assessment.”

“Council is committed to supporting the continuous improvement of locally-driven projects and initiatives, which meet local needs and build capacity in the wider community.”

Applications for the 2017 Georges River Community Grants Program will close on 25 June 2017.
