Nominations for Council’s 2018 Australia Day Awards now open

Mayor of Georges River Council, Cr Kevin Greene, is pleased to announce nominations for Council’s 2018 Australia Day Awards are now open.

These prestigious Australia Day Awards present an opportunity for everyone to recognise and celebrate the individuals who have contributed extensively to the Georges River community, Mayor Greene said.

“I would like to encourage all community members to nominate people who contribute to our society and who challenge us to make our own contributions to the community,” he said.

“This year, Council will receive nominations across three categories – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.”

Mayor Greene explained that in order to nominate someone for an award, you will need to outline how your nominee has contributed to the local community in the category for which you are nominating them.

“When you are nominating your local hero, you will also be asked to summarise your nominee’s achievements and explain why you think this person is a positive role model and an inspiration to members of the community,” he said.

“If you think there is someone in the community that deserves to be recognised, then head to Council’s website and fill out a nomination form.”

“The winners of these fantastic awards will be announced at a special event at the Booth Saunders Pavilion at Hurstville Oval on Monday 22 January 2018.”

Nominations for the awards will remain open until close of business, Friday 24 November. In order to be eligible to be nominated for Council’s 2018 Australia Day Awards, nominees must live in the Georges River Council local government area and must be an Australian Citizen.
