Nominations closing soon for Australia Day Awards 2020

Georges River Council is encouraging community members to nominate a deserving local for Australia Day Awards 2020, with nominations closing on Friday 1 November 2019.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said the awards present a great opportunity to give our community’s best the recognition they deserve.
“This year we have expanded the categories for awards to include, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and new categories, Sportsperson of the Year, Green Advocate of the Year, and an Arts and Culture Award,” explained Mayor Greene.
“An overall Citizen of the Year will be selected from these categories and announced live on Australia Day.
“These new categories mean that a greater number of passionate people, working across a range of areas, have the opportunity to be recognised for their hard work, initiative and community-mindedness.
“If you know someone who you are proud of, who is making real change for their community, I encourage you to nominate them today.
Winners will be recognised at the Australia Day Festival 2020 at Carss Bush Park, as part of a full day of festivities which include a Welcome to Country, a special citizenship ceremony, live music, diverse cultural performances, entertainers and market stallholders.
Australia Day Award nominees must be an Australian Citizen and live in the Georges River Local Government Area.
