New lease for Kyle Bay on Georges (formerly Club Blakehurst)

Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner announced a lease change for the property owned by Council known as Kyle Bay on Georges, formerly Club Blakehurst.

Mr Rayner said that following the expiration of the lease, a number of tenders were submitted by interested businesses to operate on this beautiful stretch of the Georges River, which is bordered by the bowling green and residential properties.

“Council has had a long and proud partnership in the management and maintenance of this site with businesses over the years, and we are confident that the successful lessee, Venus Reception Centre, will be sensitive to the needs of local residents and club members, and provide an interesting offering to the community,” he said.

“The lease for the use of Kyle Bay on Georges includes provisions for Blakehurst Bowling Club to continue its use of the facility under current terms, including car park usage, office space, and of course access to the bowling greens.

“An assessment panel determined the tenders which were submitted, and found that Venus Reception Centre had the most meritorious application, demonstrating good value for money and a significant investment in the site in the form of a refurbishment project, which will benefit the community.

“Council worked with the current occupant, Zippo’s Restaurant and Bar, to give them extra time to make their arrangements, and the final date of the lease of Monday 5 September was determined with this in mind.

Mr Rayner said that he was confident that Venus Reception Centre would enhance the business of the Kyle Bay on Georges site, and be sensitive to the needs of local residents and the broader community.

“We will work with Venus Reception Centre and the Blakehurst Bowling Club to enrich the local community, as we have done in the past,” he said.

"Refurbishments to the facility will focus on the bistro and bar first, and the cafe and function space after that, so that community members can use the new alfresco dining and cafe from late spring and the whole facility in time for the summer season.

"Council appreciates the support provided by the management and staff of Zippo's over the years, and would like to thank them for their work in the community.”
