Mayor Greene re-elected alongside new Deputy Mayor

Councillor Kevin Greene has been once again elected Mayor of Georges River Council following an Extraordinary Council meeting last night (23 September 2019).  

Labor’s Kevin Greene will be joined by Councillor Con Hindi as Deputy Mayor who will retain the position until the next Local Government elections held in September 2020. Mayor Greene, who received the only nomination for the Mayoral position, thanked Councillor Sam Elmir for his service and his outstanding work as Deputy Mayor over the past year, and said that he is delighted to have been re-elected to serve the community. 
 
“I am honoured to be once again elected as Mayor of Georges River and I thank my fellow Councillors for their unanimous support,” said Mayor Greene.  
 
“I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Council to say thank you to all the Council staff for their outstanding work and commitment to achieving positive outcomes for the Georges River community.  
 
“I look forward to working together with my fellow Councillors, as well as the community to continue to build on the many significant projects underway, which include environmental initiatives, new playgrounds, amenities, sporting field upgrades and a new childcare centre just to name a few,” Mayor Greene added.   
 
Deputy Mayor Hindi was elected unopposed and thanked his fellow Councillors for their support.    “I’m going to do the best job I can as Deputy Mayor and am looking forward to serving the community,” said Councillor Hindi. 
 
Georges River Council Standing Committee Representatives and Councillor Delegates for External Committees were also elected at the Council meeting. Councillors will represent the community on these Committees until September 2020.
