Lanskey Constructions win contract for Penshurst Park Indoor Cricket Centre

Georges River Council has appointed Lanskey Constructions as the successful contractor to undertake the construction of the new Penshurst Park Indoor Cricket Centre.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Councillor Kevin Greene, said the new facility, which was initiated by the former Hurstville City Council, will provide an opportunity to foster community participation in cricket and inspire the next generation of players.

“Cricket has been a favourite pastime and sport for many Australians and especially members our local area. I am sure the creation of this fantastic new centre will help members of our local area continue to participate in cricket at all levels,” he said.

“The new Indoor Cricket Centre will be a professional level centre that will include six outdoor practice wickets, six indoor practice wickets and four synthetic practice wickets,” he said.

“It will be an excellent shared training and player development facility for the local and metropolitan area.”
“Ultimately, this centre will form an integral part of what will become a first class regional centre for local sport, with tangible community benefits,” he added.

Councillor Greene explained that the works to be carried out are consistent with the Penshurst Park Masterplan and Penshurst Park Plan of Management.

“Council has allocated a total of $5.5 million towards this project, with Cricket Australia in conjunction with Cricket NSW providing $400,000,” he said.

“I would like to thank Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW for their contribution to the creation of this state-of-the-art facility.”

Cricket NSW Chief Executive Andrew Jones said the new facility at Penshurst Park is going to be a wonderful facility for the St George and NSW Cricket Communities.

“At the same time our game is experiencing unprecedented growth for men, women, girls and boys, we have a chronic facilities crisis. Penshurst Park will not only accommodate cricket’s growth, it will be a benchmark facility for the game,” he said.

“We are delighted construction is underway and can’t wait to use the completed facility.”

Construction on the new Indoor Cricket Centre will begin in April 2018, with work expected to be completed by January 2019.
