Kogarah Clean to transform the town centre

After listening to members of the community and what they value in Kogarah, Georges River Council will undertake an extensive clean of the Kogarah Town Centre.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Kevin Greene, said the idea for the Kogarah Clean was sparked after Council received feedback from the community about what they value most in their town centres and follows the highly successful Hurstville Big Wash.

“The results from these conversations – which will help shape Council’s new Place Making Program and draft Economic Development Strategy – found people in Kogarah really value the cleanliness of their public spaces,” Mayor Greene said.

“In response to this finding, Council has decided to extend its usual cleaning activities throughout the Kogarah Town Centre between Monday 19 February to Friday 9 March, to include a detailed clean-up of footpaths, shopfronts and awnings.”

“The clean, which will have a focus on Belgrave Street and Railway Parade, will also see the removal of unauthorised posters and signage and the rejuvenation of street furniture and public infrastructure.”

“By extending the usual cleaning services within Kogarah, we can make the area more appealing to local shoppers, business owners and visitors to the area,” he added.

Mayor Greene highlighted this project complements Council’s previous efforts to improve the aesthetics of Forest Road, Hurstville, through last year’s Big Wash.

“Throughout March this year, Council will also be undertaking a Makeover Month in the Hurstville Town Centre to expand on the success of the Big Wash,” Mayor Greene said.

“This will include an expanded clean-up of footpaths, street furniture, shopfronts and awnings throughout Ormonde Parade and Forest Road.

“Through initiatives such as these, Council is working towards ensuring our town centres are more attractive and vibrant places for people to enjoy.”

“Overall, Council will be allocating nearly $100,000 to additional cleaning services across the local government area,” he added.

The cleaning activities throughout the Kogarah Town Centre will take place between 12.00am and 5.00am.
