Georges River Council is pleased to announce that, as part of Council’s Summer of Cricket, the NSW Blues cricket team will be heading to Hurstville Oval to play Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match this November.

Featuring a star-studded team, including Australian Captain Steve Smith, Vice-Captain David Warner, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Peter Nevill, Kurtis Patterson and Moises Henriques, the NSW Blues will be sure to put on an outstanding show for spectators.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Cr Kevin Greene, said Hurstville Oval hosting the NSW Blues as part of the Sheffield Shield competition is a fantastic opportunity for local residents to see some of cricket’s best players in the Georges River area.

“I encourage all cricket fans to come down to Hurstville Oval from Saturday 4 to Tuesday 7 November. Entry is free and it’s a great chance to see some first class cricket right here in our local area,” he said.

“Council is delighted that Hurstville will continue to be a cricket hotspot throughout the summer, and we expect that plenty of local fans will want to come and enjoy some world class sporting entertainment,” Mayor Greene added.

Mayor Greene highlighted that Hurstville Oval has a long history of hosting international and professional level cricket including previous editions of the domestic One-Day Cup, and International Women’s Matches.

“Since its official opening in 1911, the Oval has hosted some of Australia’s very best cricketers and rising stars,” he said.

“The Oval is consistently rated one of the best grounds in Sydney and is regularly sought after for matches and training.”

“Hurstville Oval was also home to sporting legend Sir Donald Bradman from 1926 to 1933, as well as renowned opening batsman Arthur Morris, who made his 1930s debut for St George Cricket Club at the age of 14.”
