Help navigate your ‘screenagers’ in their use of technology

Georges River Council is holding a ‘Digital Nutrition’ seminar at the Hurstville Entertainment Centre to help parents, carers, teachers and health professionals understand more about technology use among young people.

Presented by Jocelyn Brewer, the seminar aims to help explain how to support young people to develop healthy online habits that maximise the benefits of digital devices and avoid traps of Problematic Internet Use.

It will address the tension between the need to use technology for learning and the inclination of young people to leisure activities, and looks at whether technology is ‘addictive’ and how we can prevent overuse.

The seminar will help you understand more about the impacts of a hyper-connected, tech saturated world on developing brains (and your own!).

Jocelyn Brewer is a psychologist and qualified teacher who has been studying teens and tech for over eight years. She’ll provide practical strategies for parenting in the digital age and answer questions you might have about video games, social media and digital cultures.
