Have your say on the draft Local Environmental Plan for Georges River

A draft Local Environmental Plan (LEP) detailing new planning controls for the Georges River is now on public exhibition and Council would like you to have your say.

The draft LEP 2020 responds to key points raised by the local community during extensive consultation throughout the development of the Local Strategic Planning Statement.

Mayor Kevin Greene said that the LEP 2020 document also responds to statutory requirements, as well as State Government direction.

“The draft Local Environmental Plan establishes the framework for land use and development across the LGA,” said Mayor Greene.

“LEP 2020 is the first of four stages in the development of a comprehensive planning framework for Georges River.

“Stage One focuses on housing and harmonisation, and aims to deliver consistent land use controls across the LGA so that the same rules apply for everyone.

“Future LEPs will focus on housing choice, jobs and activation, and planning for future growth.

“Improved land use controls will create a better local environment for everyone and deliver well-designed buildings, a mix of housing, greener suburbs and sustainable development practices.

“It will also see more productive industrial areas, vibrant town centres and, importantly, a healthy Georges River foreshore.

“Council strongly encourages anyone who is interested in the future planning of the Georges River area, and those who live or reside here, to take a look at the draft LEP 2020.

The draft LEP 2020 will be on public exhibition from 1 April to 15 May 2020.
