Grant funding opportunities now open to local community groups

23/03/2018

Georges River Council is providing funding opportunities to local not-for-profit community groups through the second round of its Community Grants Program.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Councillor Kevin Greene, said the second round of the program will provide community groups the chance to apply for a share in $200,000 to support projects and initiatives that benefit the local area.

“For the first time, Council will be increasing the maximum amount community groups can apply for to $25,000 in order to support major programs,” Councillor Greene said.

“Grants valued up to $25,000 are for programs that will result in a more connected community across the Georges River area, and activities that help contribute towards creating a more vibrant, welcoming and inclusive local government area.”

“An example could be supporting a new or existing free event that builds a sense of place, brings people together and provides opportunities for people to have positive interactions in the community,” he added.

“Groups will also be able to apply for grants up to $10,000 to help with community assets and equipment.”
Councillor Greene said the launching of round two follows the enormous success of the first round of grants which were awarded in August 2017.

“Over 30 local not-for-profit community groups benefited from a share of $200,000 as part of the first round of the Program,” he said.

“This funding helped support local projects and initiatives, which have resulted in numerous benefits for the local community.”

Councillor Greene highlighted that community groups will have until 15 April 2018 to make their submissions for funding.

“This is a great opportunity for community groups to receive Council support,” Councillor Greene said.

“Council will be hosting information sessions for community groups to learn more about the Community Grants Program and how they can apply for funding. One will be held on Wednesday 14 March at the St George Community Centre, and another will be held on Friday 16 March at the Georges River Council Civic Centre.”
