Georges River Council Launches Summer Events Program

Mayor of Georges River Council, Cr Kevin Greene, is delighted to launch Council’s 2017/2018 Summer Events Program.
Council’s summer events calendar has grown to be hugely popular with both members of our local community, and visitors from right across Sydney, Mayor Greene said.
“Hosted in venues across the Georges River area, these events are designed to bring local people together to participate in free events within their community.”
“Each event celebrates the diversity of our community and provides opportunities for residents and visitors alike to join together and be part of the free events we have coming up over the summer season.”
“I would like to thank our generous sponsors and community organisations who have enabled us to host these vibrant and exciting events,” he said.

“Our events will be accessible for people of all ages, including those with disability.”

The event program begins with an evening of festive fun at Magic of Christmas at Carss Bush Park on Saturday 9 December. This annual family event will be headlined by popular actor and singer Jay Laga’aia and also feature seasonal stalls, live shows, and a special appearance from Santa. For the first time, Council’s Magic of Christmas event will also have a fireworks display that will light up the sky over Kogarah Bay.
The program also includes Council’s popular Australia Day Festival. For over 25 years, the Australia Day Festival has been a popular and vibrant family celebration, showcasing great live music, diverse cultural performances, entertainers, market stallholders and concluding with a spectacular fireworks display. An exciting headline for our Australia Day Festival will be announced soon.
Council will then welcome in the Year of the Dog with a number of fantastic and colourful events. The 2018 Lunar New Year Festival is undergoing some exciting development to include new activities and spectacles. The event will also feature crowd favourites including colourful dragons, community performances and vibrant market stalls.
