Former Oatley Bowling Club site to be transformed into open space

31/01/2020

The Georges River community is being called upon to help plan the future use of the former Oatley Bowling Club site at River Road, Oatley. Residents are encouraged to complete an online survey at Your Say Georges River before 6 March 2020 and will also be invited to join a community Visioning Workshop in February 2020.

Council has commissioned Cardno (NSW/ACT) Pty Ltd to work with the community to prepare a Masterplan and Plan of Management for the site, which will result in the creation of new open space in Oatley.

The Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene, explained that the site will be designed for community-based recreation purposes and is encouraging a diverse cross-section of the community, including youth, to share feedback for the redevelopment.

“The Masterplan and Plan of Management will be created with our community in two phases and we are currently entering Phase One of the project, which includes an online survey and a Visioning Workshop at Oatley Community Hall,” said Mayor Greene.

“Insights gained from the community during this initial consultation stage will guide the creation of the draft plans, which will be placed on Public Exhibition for further community comment in Phase Two of the project later in the year.

“Residents will be invited to attend one of two drop-in sessions to review the draft Masterplan and Plan of Management as part of Phase Two, to share any additional feedback prior to final adoption of the document by Council.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Georges River residents to help create brand new open space in the local area and I encourage residents of all ages to get involved, to ensure the final concept is representative of the entire community,” added Mayor Greene.

The survey lists a number of potential options for the site including an adventure playground, a skate park, café and community gallery/ecology centre, an amphitheatre, public art, tennis courts, basketball courts, casual lawn bowls and bushland regeneration.
