All residents, over the age of 18, within the Georges River local government area are reminded that if you are on the electoral role it is compulsory to participate in local government elections.

The new Council will consist of 15 elected Councillors across five wards. Following election of the 15 Councillors, the new Councillors will elect a Mayor and a Deputy Mayor for the Council.

Each ward, Blakehurst, Hurstville, Kogarah Bay, Mortdale and Peakhurst, will be represented by three Councillors.

A person entitled to vote at Federal or State elections is entitled to be enrolled for local government elections if they are:
 A resident of the Council/ward (residential roll)
 An owner of rateable land in the Council/ward (non-residential roll)
 An occupier of a rate paying lessee of rateable land in the Council/ward (non-residential roll).

A corporation is entitled to participate in the local election by nominating a person to appear on the roll on behalf of the corporation.

All residents and corporations are reminded that they are not entitled to more than one vote in any Council area, even if the person/corporation is a multiple owner, occupier or lessee.

For all members of the community interested in becoming Councillor, Council has prepared a comprehensive candidate pack, which is available via www.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au. This pack will help you understand the roles, responsibilities and obligations of being a local Councillor.
