Discovery Festival of Community Arts 2017

16/10/2017

Georges River Council invites all residents across the Georges River area to participate in the 2017 Discovery Festival of Community Arts.

This exciting annual festival explores the multicultural elements of the local area and promotes diversity.

Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene said “The festival is a wonderful chance to celebrate our diverse local community and the talent it has to offer across the art, music, film and theatre spaces.

“I encourage everyone to get involved in this year’s festival and enjoy the exciting events that are scheduled,” added Mayor Greene.

As in previous years, the 2017 Discovery Festival of Community Arts will feature art exhibitions, concerts, artist talks, and movie screenings.

This year’s festival will run from Saturday 30 September through to Saturday 4 November 2017. The festival will feature eleven events highlighting and celebrating the creativity, challenges and aspirations of our local communities, using arts and culture as a means for expression, reflection and inclusion.

Opening the festival this year will be the I’m Still Here Showcase on Saturday 30 September, at the Civic Theatre, Hurstville Entertainment Centre. The event will include a video performance and a discussion about dementia, brain health and healthy ageing, to mark Dementia Awareness Month 2017.
