Creative ideas wanted for a new event in the Georges River

Residents of the Georges River area are being asked to provide ideas to help Georges River Council create a unique new event, which will attract visitors from the local area and beyond.
“As part of Council's Event Strategy, we are investigating the potential of an annual 'destination' event, to add vibrancy to the Georges River area and attract visitors from near and far,” said Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene.
“Council wants your help planning this event, we want you to tell us which events you have loved and why, and what you’d like to see more of in the Georges River, no matter how big or small your idea may be.
“Council’s survey has already uncovered some interesting insights, with the majority of respondents (119) leaving the local area to attend food and beverage markets, followed by 113 venturing away from home to check out live music events, and a further 95 choosing to visit events which offer unusual entertainment or activities.
“These findings will help to provide guidance on which features of events are major drawcards for people, and we’ve now extended the survey to ensure that as many of our residents as possible get the chance to have their say.
“Strengthening the local area’s community events and experiences is a key ambition of Council, and will take us closer to realising goals to develop a harmonious and proud community, as outlined in Council’s Delivery Program and Operational Plan.
“I strongly encourage all community members to share their feedback via a quick online survey, so that together we can shape a new local event that complements the special lifestyle we are lucky enough to enjoy in the Georges River area.”
The Events Survey, which takes approximately two minutes to complete, is available for community comment on Council’s Georges River Your Say portal. For more information please call 9330 6400. For more information on Georges River Council, please visit
The Destination Event is outlined in Georges River Council’s Delivery Program 2018/19 to 2020/21 and Operational Plan 2019/20, which was adopted by Council on June 24 2019 after a period of extensive community consultation.
